Betting Market
Goalscorer Betting Explained
Back a player to score: anytime during the match, first, last, or two or more goals.
How this market works
Anytime goalscorer is the most forgiving of the scorer markets and by far the most popular. First goalscorer pays considerably more but is unforgiving: if someone else opens the scoring, the bet is gone within minutes.
Penalty duty is the most undervalued factor in this market. A designated penalty taker in a team that attacks regularly picks up goals that have nothing to do with open play. Settlement rules also matter: in most first-scorer markets, a bet on a player who comes on after the opening goal is void rather than lost.
Scorer market options
- Anytime scorer: around 2.00 for a main striker at home
- First goalscorer: typically three to four times the anytime price
- To score two or more: long odds, small stakes only
Best used for
- Penalty takers in attacking sides
- Strikers facing weak defences
- Combining with a match result in a bet builder
Watch out
Check the team sheet. Backing a scorer market before line-ups are confirmed risks a void bet or a wasted stake on a rested player.
