Odds are probability with a margin attached
Divide 1 by a decimal price to get the implied probability. A price of 2.00 implies 50%, 4.00 implies 25%, and 1.25 implies 80%. Add up the implied probabilities across a market and you will get slightly more than 100% — that difference is the operator's margin.
This matters because it tells you what you are being asked to believe. If you think a team wins more often than the price implies, you have a bet. If you do not, you are just backing a favourite.
What moves Copa America prices
Team news is the biggest single driver, followed by money. A confirmed absence for a key attacker moves goal lines immediately. Heavy public backing of a famous club shortens its price regardless of merit.
- Confirmed line-ups roughly an hour before kick-off
- Injuries, suspensions and squad rotation
- Weather and pitch conditions
- Weight of money on popular clubs
Competition-specific pricing
Scoring is lower than most bettors expect. Knockout ties in particular tend to be tense and cautious, with penalties a real possibility. Cards markets, under goals and draw-inclusive bets all fit the tournament's character better than heavy over-goals lines.
